Stairs of this fallen city are the rough hewn rocks and stones climbing into the mountain where the city rests undisturbed by nature and man.

These natural stairs were formed by the crumbling walls of the ancient ruins, and also by the mountain crevice formed naturally by erosion. To climb these stairs you might want to invest in some hiking gear or at least some good rope.

Human activity in the area dates back to 5000 B.C. The first traces of civilization on the hill date from the Bronze Age, while the ceramics found on the place date from the Early Iron Age. There is an impressive round altar, almost 2 m in diameter, and hewn out of the rocks. Medokos had called himself king of Thrace after Sitalces’s death but failed to become one. He was at the time based at Perperikon that was a 12 days journey from the sea. At that time there actually where stairs that lead into the city, but they have all since crumbled into ruin.

At the time of the Roman Empire, a giant multi-story palace was erected according to archeological evidence, which was imposing with its large size fortress was built around the hill with walls as thick as 2.8 meters. Temples and quarters of residential buildings were also constructed in the fortress and shockingly the megalith complex had been laid in ruins and re-erected many times in history.

A church pulpit was found by Bulgarian archeologists at the peak of the Thracian rock sanctuary on September 10, 2005. It is thought of as the first finding of the kind in Bulgaria. The pulpit was probably built at the end of the 4th century A.D. or the early 5th century; which was during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Honorius and coincided with the period of the christening of the Thracians in the Rhodopes area.

It has the form of a one-ship basilica of 16.5 meters in length, which is the most typical form of an early Christian religious temple. The pulpit, which is almost untouched by time, is richly decorated with stone-carved ornaments. An eagle with largely spread wings is clearly seen on the rock. It also bears five inscriptions in Greek, which are yet to be explained but which archaeologists suppose are liturgical writings.

If you have an interest in Greece you should trek the stairs of Perperikon!

Stairs of the fortified city of Beni Isguen are mysterious and untouched by visitors of the oasis in the Sahara Desert in Algeria.

These are the stairs of a religious city that has been left alone by the modernization of the world. The local community of Beni Isguen consists mostly of shop keepers and those who tend to the agricultural needs of the city. With a total population of approximately 6800 residents, they live strictly according to the Islamic religion and form a crucial part of the heritage of Algeria.

The stairs of Beni Isguen are paved in islamic tradition and mud brick clay. They climb to various parts of the city; into dark secretive alleyways; crisscrossing the holy mosques of the sacred city. The stairs act as a gateway into the mystery of Beni Isguen.

This impressive oasis, in the heart of the Sahara Desert was created in the 10th century. The skill and technical abilities of the time are remarkable when looking at how they controlled water and the cultivation of trees such as: lemon trees, olive trees, date palms, fig trees and vines. Its council of spiritual matters, known as the Halka Azzaba, consists of twelve men who are key members of the community. Men in the city still wear their traditional outfits; and the women are covered from head to toe, with only a small hole being left open in their headdress to be able to see. The community also finds it offensive if photos are taken of them.

To be able to visit Beni Isguen, visitors will have to find a guide who is authorized to enter the city. Visitors are not permitted to enter the city without being accompanied by a guide or a member of the community. The picture that is painted on the wall outside the city reminds visitors that no dogs are allowed within the city and that no photos are permitted. There is also a strict dress code to abide by. Visitors wearing short clothing will not be allowed to enter, as legs and arms are required to be covered. Guests to the city are required to leave the city by nightfall. In previous years, the gates to the city were closed at night, and even though the policy to close the gates has fallen away, visitors are still not allowed here at night. This makes the city even more so mysterious, as though something in the city may be lurking in the darkness at nightfall down those stairs.

Visitors cannot investigate some parts of the city, but guides will safely lead you through the maze of corridors and roads to notable attractions, such as the watchtower and the mosque. If lucky, visitors will be able to catch a glimpse at the detailed pottery pieces and the breathtaking carpets, jewelry and brass ware that the community is known for. A visit to the Beni Isguen oasis will definitely be a unique and unmatched experience. Their tolerance for visitors has opened a window of opportunity for their lifestyle to be viewed that would otherwise remain hidden behind the great walls of the city.

It would a magnificent chance to see the cultural beauty of Beni Isguen and traverse the stairs of such a wonderful city. If you should ever get the chance to visit Algeria you should visit Beni Isguen, heck climb their stairs.

Stairs were not Charles Demuths main focus in artwork, this particular piece had some meaning in his life and so he painted this piece of his memories to show a story of his own.

The stairs are painted in water color which was Charles primary medium. You can also see the cubism infused into his work where the stairs bend and shape into and out of our perspective. Charles Demuth was known for putting the focus on his subject but then bending the perspective of that subject.

While he was in Paris, he met Marsden Hartley by walking up to a table of American artists and asking if he could join them. He had a great sense of humor being rich in double entendres, and they asked him to be a regular member of their group. Through Hartley he met Alfred Stieglitz and became a member of the Stieglitz group. In 1926, he had a one-man showing of the stairs at the Anderson Galleries and another at Intimate Gallery the New York gallery run by his friend Alfred Stieglitz.

His most famous painting, The Figure Five in Gold, was inspired by his friend William Carlos Williams’s poem “The Great Figure”. Roberta Smith described the work in the New York Times:

“Demuth’s famous visionary accounting of Williams, I Saw the Figure Five in Gold, a painting whose title and medallion-like arrangement of angled forms and stairs were both inspired by a verse the poet wrote after watching a fire engine streak past him on a rainy Manhattan street while waiting for Marsden Hartley, whose studio he was visiting, to answer his door.”

Describing its importance, Judith H. Dobrzynski in The Wall Street Journal wrote:

“It’s the best work in a genre Demuth created, the “poster portrait.” It’s a witty homage to his close friend, the poet William Carlos Williams, and a transliteration into paint of his poem, “The Great Figure”.”

It’s a decidedly American work made at a time when U.S. artists were just moving beyond European influences. It’s a reference to the intertwined relationships among the arts in the 1920s, a moment of cross-pollination that led to American Modernism. In addition, it anticipates Pop art.

Charles Demuths stairs are beautiful example of poetic cubism. if you should find this piece in a gallery take some time to study the sharp design of these stairs they may provide ideas for your own stairs design.

Japan Mall Implements LED Technology with Architecture in Stairs Creation

You might have been wondering when technology and stairs would meet. Well in a Japanese mall they merged the use of LED technology to form vivid pictures of golden floral dragons and emerald castles. The best part is that these images consistently change throughout the day. The use of LED takes the regular humdrum out of climbing a flight of stairs and adds an artistic approach to it. Which in my opinion is an excellent idea and really adds a sense of uniqueness that can not be matched. It seems like Japan never lets up in trying to be the best and most technologically advanced country in the world, which means America is going to try to find some good methods of trying to keep up with Japan. I wish Japan’s technology would reach other parts of the world and we would probably be in a much more interesting world to see many great forms of architect similar to the picture shown above.

Stairs of Park Guell are the most wonderful attraction for Barcelona Italy they are made with a mosaic of color glass and tile.

These stairs were built to maintain the beauty of Park Guell, and what a success that has been. They also have lovely floral designs and images of dragons which only help to benefit the parks mascot the dragon. An interesting tidbit to know is that the park was originally part of a commercially unsuccessful housing site, which was the idea of Count Eusebi Güell, whom the park was named after. It was inspired by the English garden city movement; hence the original English name Park. The site was a rocky hill with little vegetation and few trees, which were called Muntanya Pelada (Bare Mountain). It already included a large country house called Larrard House or Muntaner de Dalt House, which was next to a neighborhood of upper class houses called La Salut (The Health). The intention was to exploit the fresh air and beautiful views from the site with sixty triangular lots being provided for luxury houses.

The stairs of Count Eusebi Güell added to the prestige of the development by moving in 1906 to live in Larrard House. Ultimately, only two houses were built, neither designed by Gaudí. One was intended to be a show house, but one of them being completed in 1904 was put up for sale. As no buyers came forward, Güell suggested to Gaudí to buy it with his savings; and moved in with his family and his father in 1906. This house, where Gaudí lived from 1906 to 1926, was built by Francesc Berenguer in 1904. It contains original works by Gaudí and several of his collaborators. It is now the Gaudi House Museum (Casa Museu Gaudí) since 1963. In 1969 it was declared a historical artistic monument of national interest.

As you can see these stairs only help to magnify the appearance of Park Guell as an attraction for Barcelona Spain. It would be an unbelievably great idea to stop by and take a gander at such wonderful stairs.

Stairs That Are Stylishly Red and White with Beautiful Stair Design

You don’t have to be an interior designer to see that these stairs were meant to attract attention to the clothing displays. White is a neutral color that allows the use of any other color as a contrast. Red is a bright strong color used to attract the attention of the eye and the high contrast between red and white only helps to heighten the attention to the display. Though studies also suggest that red cars have the highest burglary rate, so it might be useful to remember that when designing your stairs.

Stairs spiral down into the lower hallway of the Opus One Winery which is a winery in Oakville

California, USA. The wine was called napamedoc until 1982 when it was named Opus One. The winery was founded as a joint venture between Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild and Robert Mondavi. It’s purpose was to create a single Bordeaux style blend based upon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, which in my opinion may be quite awesome to achieve. The greatest thing about this winery is that it is located across State Route 29 California from the Robert Mondavi Winery. The creation of this winery venture in 1980 was big news in the wine industry; Philippe de Rothschild’s involvement added an air of respectability to the burgeoning Napa wine region. An interesting tidbit to know is that the first vintage created in 1979 was released in1984, which was created at the same time as the 1980 vintage. For a while it was the most expensive Californian wine that had a cost of 50 USD. In 1989 a new winery was built just down the road, the first vintage from the new winery was from 1991 and was released in 1994.

The stairs located inside Opus One Winery were the joint venture between Mondavi and Baron Rothschild was announced in 1980. But in reality the plans for the winery’s stairs had been developing between the two men since the early 1970s. Surprisingly in 1980, Mondavi sold 35 acres from his own land to Kalon Vineyard in the Oakville AVA to the joint venture that would serve as the backbone for the blend. The great this to know is that the first vintage from this block was released in 1985, and soon the estate built the large limestone winery in Oakville that has become an icon of the Napa Valley.

The greatest thing about the stairs in the 1990′s were used to travel in between corridors of the winery. An astonishing find is that Opus One became the California cult wine to be widely sold in Asia and Europe. Following Constellation Brands’ 2004 takeover of Robert Mondavi winery, the estate of Baron Rothschild negotiated with Constellation Brands control of marketing, vineyard management and administration of the winery.
